I have just come back from a scouting trip to Co. Cork. My purpose was to check out everything from Airport to food. So what did I find? I found everything to be in order and that we are going first class for missions.
Most people don't understand the sacrifices that many missionaries make and the difficulties they face on the mission field. Over the coming months we intend to bring a sense of this home to you.
I dropped into Cork on Thursday and immediately drove to the host hotel and inspected the accommodations. This was followed by inspecting another comparable facility only to find that our first choice is definitely first class in price, standard and flexibility. One draw back, you will have to double up by sharing your bed with someone else as we only have double beds that accommodate two people (oh the hardships of missions work). You can see the accommodations visit /.
So what about transport? We have already booked two, Renault Traffic or similar, 9 seater mini-buses to take us around Ireland during our stay (see the type of vehicles visit www.missionstoeurope.org).
Well when it comes to food, I have visited the local Tesco to give it a through inspection and once we have booked up, I will be ordering food for our self-catering adventure online, to be delivered to our temporary home site.
The next things was our recreation time, because all work and no play makes Jack a very dull boy. So I spent a day driving around Co. Cork to see what the locals called their best sights. I had time to visit four of these sites; I started in Youghal (pronounced Y'all). There I found the most wonderful white sandy beach nearby and a town full of history (definitely worth a visit).
My next stop was a place called Cobh (pronounced Cove). This is also worth a visit: Its the place from which the Titanic set sail and also has a number of featured places and attractions in the same local walking distance area. It is a place where you can spend the whole day and all of your money too.
After this, I made a pit stop at Mahon point shopping center which is where the Tesco is and then on to a place called Kinsale. Unfortunately for Kinsale I didn't see anything that would occupy a group for an entire day, unless they like to eat all day, in which case its a wonderful place to be; because its famous for its fresh seafood.
So it was on to Blarney Castle which charges tourists for access and the chance to touch the Blarney stone and make a wish?? What's that about, you'll need to read up on that somewhere else, but its definitely not a half or whole day excursion, so as famous as it is, we won't be going there. So then as you will see from our schedule below the choices are made and they are the first two stops.
Last but not least, the host Church and I had a chat about their needs and we decided on the schedule of activities below. For those who make the trip, we have a goal of doubling the attendance of the church we are going to support and you can make a great contribution to this by coming with us. Check out the videos and pictures and then register at www.missionstoeurope.org
You can of course support our mission by praying for our success or simply by making a donation that will help our group to make the trip. May God bless you as you prayerfully consider your role in becoming a part of our team. Visit www.missionstoeurope.org
